Le Bar at the Hotel Le Richemond has decided to honor the Martini cocktail. More than a drink, the Martini represents a spirit, an atmosphere, a certain idea of luxury tinted with a touch of nonchalance and laid-back attitude. It is this Martini spirit that Le Bar will put forward once a month, by proposing a « Martini Night », dedicated to a historic personality that has perpetuated the celebration of this classic and contemporary concoction.

Variations on the theme « Totally Martini !»
Beginning this Wednesday 16 April, Le Bar is launching « Martini Nights » which will highlight a particular manner of preparing and appreciating the Martini. Born in the United States in the 1870’s, this mythic drink which Khrouchthev called the « fatal weapon of the American’s » was the favorite cocktail of a litany of personalities, from Ernest Hemingway, Alfred Hitchcock and Cary Grant to Dorothy Parker or Orson Welles. Highlighted in films and literature, from James Bond to Sex & the City, the Martini is not only a drink, it represents the « American way of life », a certain relaxed and chic spirit.

The preparation of the first American cocktail evolved during the 20th century. The basic recipe integrates two main ingredients, gin and vermouth, and is generally served with an olive in a triangular stemmed glass, which has been part of its identity since the 1920’s. In the 1950’s, vodka began to replace gin in certain preparations, and a more simple glass was used for certain recipes. Despite or thanks to these transformations, the Martini remains a classic that doesn’t go out of fashion.

The « Martini Nights » at Richemond’s bar will honor each month a particular way of preparing this cocktail, according to the tastes of a historical personality, fictional or real, known for having regularly sampled the drink, in his or her way.

First Martini Night with Ernest Hemingway…
This Wednesday 16 April beginning at 7 o’clock pm, the guests of Le Richemond will be able to discover the way that Ernest Hemingway drank the Martini. Alberto, Chef Barman of Le Bar, will offer the « Martini Classic » Hemingway, or « Montgomery », named after the English Marshal Bernard Montgomery who was distinguished during the British campaigns in North Africa. Come and discover the classics of classics to the sounds of piano music in an ambiance totally Martini !

Richemond’s Le Bar is also a place to be at any time. With its exceptional terrace and its vibrantly coloured bar, Le Bar offers “a la carte” menus that are simple and refined. For those who don’t have the time for a longer stay at the Sapori, Richemond’s restaurant, Le Bar offers them the chance to be tempted by a classic burger, a plate of Parme Pio Tosini ham accompanied by a marvelous Buffalo mozzarella, without forgetting the famous crab royal sandwich with its subtle and refreshing taste.
